Description
Tallit/Prayer Shawl with the Birkat Kohanim/The Priestly Blessing
From Numbers 6:24-26
The LORD bless you and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance to you and give you peace.
Transliterated: Yva-reh-chcha ADONAI vyeesh-mreh-cha.
Ya-air ADONAI pa-nahv ay-leh-cha vee-choo-neh-ka.
Yee-sa ADONAI pa-nahv ay-leh-cha vya-sam lcha Shalom.
To hear this chanted visit youtube and type in either Birkat Kohanim or Priestly Blessing. There are many versions and melodies. They are all beautiful.
This blessing is chanted at the end of every Shabbat service. Families and friends gather under the mens tallitot (plural of tallit/prayer shawl) and wait for the Rabbi to bless them. It is one of the sweetest moments of blessing on that day.
If you look at the context of the priestly blessing, the LORD is telling Moses to tell Aaron, to tell his sons how to place His Name on the Israeli people. I just love how intentional God is to have His Name placed on His children. Remember, that this command was given in the wilderness to all those who left Egypt during Passover. There was a very large group of people that were not Jewish, but part of the mixed multitude. For a Gentile like me, this makes me happy. God included them in this blessing, a forerunner to the time when Gentiles would become grafted into the commonwealth of Israel. What a blessing to be included with Gods chosen people! This blessing comes to us by faith in His Redeemer, Yeshua! (Jesus name in Hebrew literally means Salvation.)
